In another instance of inhuman act, locals punished a youth by tonsuring and humiliating him suspecting him to be a thief here on Sunday morning.
The incident occurred at the Nuabaazar vegetable market under the Sahadevkhunta police limits, where the locals caught the youth in connection with a bicycle theft.
The youth was beaten up mercilessly. His hands were tied up and the locals shaved his head. The humiliation did not stop there. The locals also tore his shirt and wrote ‘Chor’ (thief) on his chest and back. Besides, he was forced to parade on the roads as part of the punishment for allegedly stealing the bicycle.
The onlookers witnessing the entire episode were mere spectators as they did not make a call to police to hand over the accused. No case has been registered. The identity of the youth was yet to be known.
