A group of Maoists set road construction equipments worth `30 lakh on fire late on Thursday night after attacking the camp of a contractor at Dubala Bahal under the Melchhamunda police limits in Bargarh district.
According to sources, the leftwing extremists instructed the more than 20 workers of the camp to switch off their mobile phones and stay huddled at two separate places. The Red rebels then set a JCB machine, a tractor, a mixture machine, a vibrator machine and three drums of diesel on fire.
Following information, police rushed to the spot and began a search operation to nab the ultras. The posters and leaflets issued by the CPI(Maoist) asked the public to revolt against the State and Central Governments for their “anti-people” acts. The posters said police have been arresting innocent people instead of real culprits by launching the Green Hunt operation.
The Maoists also appealed to people to join hands with them and support celebration of their bandh call.
Bargarh DSP PK Patra said that more than seven Maoists were involved in the incident.
