Sushant assault: OHRC seeks ATR in 4 weeks

Hearing an appeal made by social activist-cum-lawyer Biswapriya Kanungo and Bijay Kumar Panda, the Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) on Tuesday asked the Balangir district Collector and State labour and ESI department to furnish an action taken report (ATR) within four weeks on the brutal attack on migrant child labourer Sushant Kumbhar.

The employer of the boy had fractured his hand with an iron rod for not obliging him in Karnataka in November last year. The commission also directed the district Collector to ensure that the injured minor boy gets proper medical treatment.

A few social activists had urged the commission to direct the Government to provide adequate compensation and rehabilitation to the family and take action against the assaulter. Besides, they had also urged an interim compensation of Rs 1 lakh to the boy.

Meanwhile, the State Government has requested the Karnataka labour Commissioner to take appropriate action against the brick kiln owner of Khandeyarnepali in Gulbarga district.
