Only a few days after self-proclaimed godman Srimad Sarathi and his son’s arrest by the State Crime Branch, another self-styled godman Sura Baba alias Surendra Mishra, head of the Trahi Achyuta Ashram, along with his two sons were arrested by the Commissionerate Police here on Monday.
The police on Monday morning took the Baba and his sons into custody after hundreds of locals ransacked the ashram located at Jhiinti Sasan under the Balianta police limits on the outskirts of the city.
According to Twin City Commissioner of Police Dr RP Sharma, Sura Baba and his two sons, Biranchi and Trilochan, were arrested at 10.30 am in the case no 187/2015 registered by the Balipatna police after hours-long interrogation here.
Police have slapped charges against the trio under Sections 341, 342, 323, 294, 506 and 34 of IPC and Section 3(I) (x) of the ST and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
Besides, the Balipatna police have also registered another case (no 191/2015) against the Baba on the basis of a complaint lodged by a woman staying at Trahi Achyuta Nagar.
The woman alleged that the inmates of the ashram as per the direction of the Baba were torturing her physically and mentally.
According to reports, another woman has brought sexual harassment allegation against the Baba.
After the arrest of Sura Baba, irate locals ransacked the ashram properties despite the presence of police force. When police tried to disperse the mob, they started pelting stones at the cops injuring many of them.
Sources said 15 policemen including DCP Satyabrata Bhoi, his deputy and two inspectors and some villagers were injured in the clash. The police made lathicharge and lobbed teargas shells to bring the situation under control.
The Police Commissioner said 12 persons were arrested and court-forwarded for ransacking the ashram. “We are examining the video footage, and on the basis of it we will arrest other accused,” he added.
Meanwhile, Section 144 CrPC has been imposed in the ashram area. Nine platoons of police force were deployed in and around the ashram.
Reports from districts said irate locals ransacked Trahi Achyuta Ashrams at Panabazar in Khordha and at Sriram Nagar in Puri.
Sura Baba’s pathshala for women at 2 am!
As in the case of Kendrapada’s Sarathi Baba before him, hither-to unknown facets of the dark deeds indulged in by Sura Baba for years under the cover of his Trahi Achyuta Ashram on the outskirts of the State Capital, are coming out in a torrent. Fresh revelations suggest that Sura Baba had converted sexual exploitation of gullible women devotees into a fine art.
In a major expose on Kanak TV, the wife of a devotee of Sura Baba made some startling revelations about the sexual escapades of the so-called godman. According to Jyotsnarani, who was in the TV studio along with her son all evening on Sunday, Sura Baba used to run a ‘night college’ exclusively for young women that opened at 2 am and closed at 6 am!
If the revelations made by Jyotsnarani are anything to go by, women agents of the Baba handpicked beautiful girls and women from among those who visit the ashram seeking solution to their varied problems and persuaded them to seek ‘special blessings’ from the Baba in the dead of night.
These women were asked to come near a banyan tree in the ashram premises at around 2 am. After taking a specialised bath using water mixed with turmeric and sandalwood paste, the women were asked to wear new sarees and then taken to a room where the Baba waited for them. The Baba’s women agents undressed the blessing-seekers before the Baba and left them there only to return at the break of dawn, Jyotsnarani said.
Besides complaints of land grab, the ashram and the Baba have also been accused of forcing devotees to offer Kar Seva, which could range from digging earth to breaking stones, in the ashram.
Sura Baba performed human sacrifice twice a year!
