Supporters demand action against Cop in Rourkela

The aggrieved supporters of Rajya Sabha MP Dilip Tirkey over the misbehaviour to their leader by DSP Kailash Nayak on February 15 last, the day Chief Minister had visited the city in BPUT premises, have demanded action against the police official.

A number of Panchayat Samiti Members, Sarpanchas and block leaders in a representation to the Rourkela SP urged to investigate the matter and take appropriate action against the police officer soon. They have also submitted the copy to the Chief Minister and the DGP.

The representation revealed that ahead of going to address a public rally on the concluding session of BYJD State convention at Basanti Colony ground, the Chief Minister had been to BPUT premises to inaugurate a new academic block and flag off city bus services. Tirkey was also accompanying the Chief Minister from Rourkela Air Strip to the BPUT. While Tirkey was moving ahead to accompany Patnaik from the BPUT premises to public meeting place, DSP Nayak not only prevented him but manhandled him publicly.

They also alleged that Tirkey is not an ordinary member. He was a hockey icon of the country for which he has been conferred with ‘Padmashree’. So the moral responsibility of a police officer is to give him protection but instead of that he manhandled him. If a DSP rank officer behaves an MP in this manner then it could be well assessed how the Rourkela police would be serving to common people. So Nayak deserves stringent action, they demanded.
