'Supply nonstop power during vote counting'

Published on:

To ensure uninterrupted supply of power to the vote counting centres on May 16, the Energy Department has urged the four power distribution companies (discoms) operating in the State to do the needful.

A letter of the department also directed the discoms to deploy technical staff in the counting centres to avoid any interruption in power supply.

“Since the counting of votes of the general elections to lok Sabha and Odisha legislative Assembly is scheduled to be held on May 16 at different centres in the State, immediate and necessary arrangements be made for an uninterrupted power supply to those centres,” said the letter.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday discussed in details through a videoconference with the District Election Officers (DEOs) about the security and smooth execution of the counting process in the centres across the State. Notably, counting of votes would be held in 159 halls at 64 centres in the State in which about 12,000 employees would be engaged.
