A pregnant woman gave birth to a child in a 108 ambulance due to the closure of Gurundia community health centre in Bonei sub-division of Sundargarh district on Saturday evening. The CDMO Sundargarh has ordered an inquiry into the matter.
According to sources, on Saturday evening, a pregnant woman of Sanbalia village, after severe labour pain, was taken to Gurundia community health center by 108 ambulance. When the ambulance reached at the health center, the family members of the woman found the gate of the CHC locked and health workers were absent. As a result, the woman screamed in pain because of labor pain inside the ambulance and after sometime, gave birth to a child inside the vehicle.
After sometime, health workers opened the CHC gate and took both the woman and her child to the hospital for treatment. The woman and her child was admitted there and the health condition of both is reportedly stable now.
“An ADMO-rank officer from Sundargarh will go to Gurundia community health centre on Monday to conduct an inquiry into the matter,” said Sundargarh CDMO Dilip Sarangi. He added, “If any lapses are found, we will take action and ensure that such further incident does not occur.”
