Sundargarh villagers get electricity after a month

The residents of as many as 50 villages of lathikata and Gurundia block of Sundargarh district, who were suffering in the scorching heat due to non availability of  electricity for the last one month following a breakdown of underground railway line cable, got a sigh of relief on Thursday with Wesco having successfully charged the electric connection.

From the lathikata 11-KV substation feeder, electricity line has crossed the railway track near Jodabandha area. About two thousand five hundred legitimate electric connections are available through this feeder.

On May 19, the underground cable, below the railway track got damaged for some reason, following which all these villages plunged into darkness.

The electricity supply company Wesco had found it difficult to resume the power supply by repairing the cable work, due to non clearance from the authorities of South Eastern Railways.

The locals had locked the lathikata sub station for about seven hours stripping power supply to about eight thousand customers on June 15. Similarly, they had also staged rail roko for a couple of hours on June 18.

“After getting the necessary approval from the railway officials a few days back, we had engaged our team for repair work and immediately after completion of the work, we successfully charged the electricity on Thursday,” said Superintending Engineer AN Meher.

“While the damage cable has been successfully replaced with a new one, we are working on a standby cable on the spot, which can be used immediately, in case of a failure of the existing one,” Meher added.
