The Rath Yatra was celebrated in most parts in Sundargarh district on Sunday and Monday. At a few places, the festival will be held on Tuesday also. At at Mahesdih the festival was held on Monday, while it will be held n Tuesday at Shankara. Sundargarh king Samarendra Sekhar Deo performed Chera Pahanra on Monday at Sundargarh town.
According to sources, the king of Sundargarh was not able to move to Mahesdih and Shankara while attending the festival at Sundargarh on a single day for doing the Chhera Pahanra. So the festival is held in different days in the three places.
Similarly in Bargaon, the Car festival was celebrated on Sunday. However, it was held on Monday at Sahajabahal, Tikiripara and Talepali Bargaon, while at Dandjanira, it will be held on Tuesday.
In Bonei sub division, the festival was held in Bonei on Sunday. But it was observed at Khutgaon, lahunipada, Kurda and Gosara on Monday. It will be celebrated at Gurundia on Tuesday. According to sources, Sundargarh being a tribal dominated area, a number of tribals also take part in the Car festival in their villages. Therefore, as per their tradition, people of a number of places in Sundargarh district pulled the chariots on Monday.
