Sujata Behera's first painting exhibition at Suvadra Art Gallery here opened on Tuesday. The visitors and guests including Culture Secretary Manoranjan Panigrahi and Odisha lalita Kala Academy president Padma Bibhusan Raghunath Mahapatra heaped praise on Sujata's work.

Sujata recollects that she used to play with colour pencils in her childhood days. When she was in high school, she won many accolades for her painting.

But for training, she has not visited any art teacher or school

After a hiatus between her college and marriage, she resumes her skill. She tells nature is her first and best teacher. This may be the reason for which nature plays a significant role in her painting, she adds.

“When I sit on painting, I allow my feelings flow on the canvas, being confined only to my inner world,” she says, adding it was but for her husband's support she could not have come so far.

Born and brought up in Dhenkanal and now staying in Kharagpur, Sujata sketched 30 paintings within a period of two months that are on display.

Water colour on paper, acrylic on board, acrylic on canvas, oil on canvas etc are the mediums she has used in these paintings.

The exhibition is open from 11 am to 7 pm everyday till December 31.
