Protesting against the rising prices of fuel and other essential commodities, the Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist) on Thursday staged a demonstration at Kalpana Square here and burnt effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Party leaders said the SUCI (Communist) had called for a State-wide protest on July 15 and, accordingly, party workers organised demonstrations in different districts. “It is quite unfortunate that while petrol and diesel prices crossed Rs 100 a litre and LPG price almost doubled during the second term of the Modi Government, most shockingly edible oil price has reached Rs 200 a litre,“ said party leader Rajendra Burma.
Among others, woman leader Chhabi Mohnaty, trade union leader Purna Chnadra Behera, Niranjuan Mohanty and Nasim Sarkar participated in the protests. The Cuttack district unit of the party also staged a demonstration before the Collectorate and submitted a memorandum to the Collector addressed to the Prime Minister. The demonstration was led by party district secretary Biswabasu Das, Khageswar Sethi and Sasmita Mohanty.
