The Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist) regional committee held a demonstration before the State Bank of India (SBI) main branch here demanding transactions of Rs 10 coins in the city and Ganjam district.
The demonstrators displaying various placards and shouting slogans submitted a memorandum to the SBI Manager, addressed to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor.
In the memorandum, SUCI (C) stated that after demonetisation and abolishing the use of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes rumours have spread about the Rs 10 coin being out of use.
This has made the situation grave. The shopkeepers and business establishments in the city are not ready to accept the Rs 10 coins. Many of the banks are also not accepting them. This has led to a huge amount of coins stocked with the people, putting them in the difficult situation.
The Government should direct the banks to accept the Rs 10 coins, demanded the party. While Somnath Behera led the protest, Kartik Chandra Mohanty, Sibani Shankar Mishra and Rajendra Dash were among others, present.
Similarly, the SUCI (C) held a function at Ramalingam Tank Road to observe the death anniversary of Karl Marx. The speakers said by Marxism the problem of capitalist rule can be solved. In the function presided over by Kartika Chandra Mohanty, Somnath Behera, Sibani Shankar Mishra and Rajendra Dash were among others present.
