'Success lies in staying ahead of change'

Change is the only constant in life, and our success lies in understanding and staying ahead of the change,” said Kamal Bali, board member and managing director of Volvo India Private limited (VIPl) here on Friday.

Speaking at the 14th Foundation Day lecture of the Xavier Institute of Management Bhubaneswar (XIMB), Bali further motivated the students by saying that “There is no shortcut to success.”

He urged them to take risks by advising them to “Go out there and be wholly experimental and entrepreneurial, be creative and take calculated risks-because, only with the full utilisation of your talents, can the country and the world become a better place.”

The thoughts he shared were applauded and quite appreciated by the audience. The audience also got the opportunity to interact with him through a question and answer session.

The event highlighted 29 years of successful collaboration between the Odisha State Government and the Jesuit Society. In the past business leaders like Vinita Bali, D Shivakumar, Madhur Bajaj, lalita Gupte, Ashok Soota, Preetha Reddy and B Muthuraman have delivered lectures on the Foundation Day and have moulded many young managers.

They have not only shared their journey but have thrown light on what it takes to be a successful leader and an ethical corporate citizen.

The event was presided over by chairman of board of governors, Xavier University, XIMB Rajeev Kaul and Vice-Chancellor, Xavier University and director, XIMB Fr Paul Fernandes, S.J.

The chairman set the tone for the talk and interactive session.

The Vice-Chancellor, Xavier University and director, XIMB concluded the evening with a vote of thanks reflecting upon the institute’s 29-year-old legacy and its journey from a business school of repute to a private university of global standards.
