Procurement Inspector [PI] Saswatika Sahoo was suspended and eight others staff of the Civil Supply Department were shifted following their involvement in procuring substandard rice meant for PDS and seizure of excess quantity of wheat from storage depot.
Reports said that allegation had been lodged before the district Collector that a miller had supplied substandard rice to the Civil Supply depot located at Taradapada. Collector Yamini Sarangi promptly had asked for a probe under headship of Sub Collector Narahari Sethy three days ago.
The Sub Collector had inspected the rice and examined the quality of the rice supplied by the assigned miller and found the rice to be of poor quality. In his report, the Sub Collector had pointed negligence on the part of PI Sahoo who had accepted the rice delivery from miller in absence of judging its quality of rice.
Basing on the report, Collector Sarangi on Saturday suspended the PI and transferred 8 staff, including two statistical assistants, two night watch men and two weight assistants, attached with the storage depot.
