The district administration on Sunday imposed prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPC in and around the Barabati Indoor Stadium here ahead of Sahara India Group chief Subrata Roy’s visit to the city.

The administration asked the Sahara employees and agents, who had congregated at the Stadium, to vacate the area. The Commissionerate police made the announcement with the help of megaphones. With this, the event to be addressed by Roy was cancelled. Around 3,000 people were expected to attend the conference.

Twin City Commissioner YB Khurania said, “We received intelligence inputs that some elements affected by chit fund scam may stage a protest and create trouble at the meeting venue leading to a law and order situation. As you know that several people were the victims of chit fund scam in the State, the Cuttack DCP passed the prohibitory orders considering the local conditions. Roy has been issued a notice asking him not to enter Cuttack.” Earlier in the day, the police had asked Roy to produce the records relating to his release from jail on parole. It was found that the Supreme Court has, however, not set any restrictions on his movement across the country.

Meanwhile, security was tightened at a star hotel in Bhubaneswar, where Roy was staying since Saturday night, to avoid any protest or untoward incident. Roy was accorded a warm reception at the airport Bhubaneswar by his company agents and employees, after which he was escorted to the hotel.

Notably, Roy is behind the bars in the Tihar Jail since March 4, 2014 for non-return of funds to his company investors. The Supreme Court in May first week this year has granted him four weeks’ parole to attend the funeral of his mother. later, the court extended the parole till July 14.
