Submit report on delimitation, reservation, BMC told

With the tenure of the current Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) ending on December 9, the Housing and Urban Development (H and UD) Department has directed the BMC authorities to complete the process of delimitation and reservation of wards soon and submit a report between July 25 and 27. The H and UD Department also asked the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) to submit its report by July 27.

“We have directed the BMC and CMC to submit their reports on delimitation and reservation of wards to the department between July 25 and 27. After getting it, we will issue the final report on August 25 and following it the election process for the BMC and CMC will start,” said H and UD Department Special Secretary Hrushikesh Tripathy.

It is to be noted here that the BMC had submitted the details of the delimitation and reservation of wards in the city based on the database of Census 2001 in March. However, the report was withdrawn by it as corporators argued that running the corporation based on the database of the 2001 Census was becoming difficult due to the increasing population. “As per the Odisha Municipal Corporation Act, 2003, we have already started initiatives for delimitation and reservation of wards and as per the database of the 2011Census, the BMC will have 67 wards instead of 60,” said BMC Mayor Anant Naraan Jena.
