Subhas shifted from Puri to Jharpada jail

Amid tight security, lone accused in Puri train coach arson case Ramachandran Subhas was shifted from the Puri jail to the Jharpada jail in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday.

This followed after the National Investigative Agency (NIA) has taken up the investigation from the Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Railway Protection Force (RPF). The NIA registered a criminal case and had approached the court to get the accused transferred from Puri Jail to Jharpada Jail.

Earlier, the NIA investigating officer had taken all connected case records from the GRP and RPF. On November 12 last, five bogies of three express trains were set fire while standing on various platforms of the Puri railway station.

The RPF had arrested Subhas and he was interrogated by the RPF and the GRP. The outcome of the interrogation revealed his terror links and involvement in arson in trains in Howrah and Haridwar. The NIA was approached to take up the investigation subsequently.

In the meanwhile, a three- member NIA team began functioning from a transit office from here on Tuesday.
