The Subhalaxmi Cooperative and the Vedanta, Jharsuguda organised its annual general body meeting on Thursday.
Renowned social activist and tribal leader Padma Shri Dr Tulasi Munda was present as chief guest. She expressed her happiness that the Subhalaxmi as a woman cooperative has come a long way in shaping life of rural and tribal women of Jharsuguda.
Munda interacted with the members of the Subhalaxmi Community and the teams of the Vedanta. She also appreciated the sustained effort of the Vedanta at Jharsuguda to nurture the cooperative into a model women empowerment movement.
It is a commendable job and the corporates should work in this direction, she said.
She urged the Subhalaxmi members to emulate Gandhian way of life and work for the development of their community and villages.
Sambalpur DRCS Anip Kumar Majhi also appreciated the Subhalaxmi for its success and urged its member to create a role model in the State.
About 300 women representatives, representing more than 3,000 cooperative members from 53 villages of the district took part in the meet to formalise agenda for the current year.
Vedanta Aluminium Business CEO Abhijit Pati and Subhalaxmi Cooperative president Pushpanjali Seth were present.
Senior officials of Jharsuguda Vedanta Jharsuguda were also present.
The Subhalaxmi Cooperative was a flagship CSR programme promoted by the Vedanta under the sustainable livelihood project ‘Vedanta Integrated Jana Jivika Yojana’ in 2008. Currently the cooperative has more than 3,000 women members in Jharsuguda district.
