Even as the Government is making tall claims of providing job at doorstep through its flagship programmes like MGNREGS, there is no end to distress migration, mostly from the SC, ST and OBC sections, of western Odisha.

According to a petition submitted to the District Labour Officer, Subarnapur, Rabindra Tandi of Julunda village under Dunguripali police station of Subarnapur had migrated to TamilNadu four months ago.

After working there for two months, while Rabindra was returning, at the railway station, he was persuaded by a person to work at a plant at Thirssur, Kerla assuring of higher wage. As he went there and worked along with four others, his misfortune started unfolding.

Three persons working there fled the spot and rest two persons, including Rabindra, are still there.

And, he has not received his last two months’ wage.

Nauandei Tandia, wife of Rabindra, has appealed to the DLO, Subarnapur, to bring back his husband from Kerala where he is languishing. “I have already taken up the issue and I am in touch with officials of Kerala. We expect to rescue him soon,” said DLO Dileshwar Khaka. Chairman of Western Odisha Yadav Development Council Balram Singh Yadav, meanwhile, demanded that the Government take immediate steps to reduce distress migration from western Odisha by providing them job, timely wage.
