Subarnapur widow resents pension nonpayment

A pensioner harassment case has come to the fore in Subarnapur district where a 45-year-old widow, Suryakanti Dash, has not got family pension for the last eight months from April to November even as all paper works were ready before time.

Suryakanti, widow of Raghunath Dash of Kamsara village under Tarbha block, with her two minor children has been living in her parental house since Raghunath, who was working as an attendant in the TB Centre, died October 2011. After all processes, the Sonepur treasury had sent the pension papers (PPO No-547677) to the SBI, Sonepur Branch to disburse pension to Suryakanti from April. However, she was disbursed pension for the month of December only.

When asked SBI officials said they had sent the papers, given by the treasury, to Bhubaneswar for approval and received life Certificate only in November. Hence, pension was disbursed for December instead of whole eight months.

Suryakanti has urged the SBI Chief Manager to provide arrear pensions at the earliest.
