At a time when mercury is hovering between 44 and 45.7 degree Celsius, erratic power supply by the Wesco continues to heap miseries on denizens of Subarnapur district. Be it the blistering heat wave condition in the day or the uncomfortable hours of night, undeclared power cuts and tripping continue to add to the suffering of the people.
Even though the State Government has decided to ensure uninterrupted power supply this summer, this district has been experiencing frequent and unscheduled power cuts and low voltage for the last several days. “We have to spend sleepless nights due to excessive heat and lack of power supply. Though our village has been electrified, we experience low voltage in the whole summer,” said linga Suna of Asurmunda village in lachhipur gram panchayat of Sonepur block.
lachhipur is not only gram panchayat in the district reeling under power cuts and low voltage. The gram panchayats in Tarbha, Binka, Birmaharajpur and Ullunda blocks are facing similar problems for last few weeks. The locals attribute the problem to negligence on the part of the officials of the Wesco Utility which looks after power transmission and supply in the district. In remote areas of Birmaharajpur, Tarbha and Sonepur blocks, low voltage has become a permanent problem and the villagers have to depend on kerosene lamps. Besides, a slight blow of wind plunges the villages in darkness as power officials snap the supply apprehending accidents. locals demand that the authorities immediately take measures to solve the problem.
