Farmers of Subarnapur district under the banner of the Krushak Bikash Samanwaya Samiti staged a dharna before the Collector’s office on Saturday taking up various issues of the peasant community.
They demanded the Collector for preparation of a final report on loss of farmers and a correct list of farmers for selling paddy, an end to unauthorised paddy selling, check farmers’ suicide and immediate provision of subsidy to farmers. The farmer leaders later submitted memorandum to the Collector addressing to the Revenue Commissioner (Sambalpur) and Supply Department Commissioner (Bhubaneswar).
They also warned to intensify their agitation in coming days if these problems are not solved at the earliest. Samiti president Rajendra Naik and secretary Sambit Nanda headed the protest.
