Subarnapur baby death: Plaint filed with NHRC

Taking a serious note of alleged negligence in treatment and lack of proper medical facility in the Menda PHC under Tarbha Block, rights activist Srikumar Mahanta moved the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).

As per sources, a 31-day child of Raghunath Bagh died due to not getting proper medical facility in the Menda PHC. While the child was sick, Raghunath took him to the hospital on Saturday morning. But as there was no doctor in the hospital, the child died by the time he was shifted to another hospital at Naikenpali.

Notably, the denizens of the area have approached the district administration several times for the filling up the doctor posts but in vain. Activist Mahanta told in his petition that it is clear violation of rights of citizen when basic healthcare remains a far cry.

He urged the NHRC to direct the Government of Odisha to set up an inquiry committee on the matter and take legal action against the errant.
