The much-awaited Subarna loka Mahotsav kick-started here on Saturday with a puja performed at the Maa Sureswari Temple and a Mashal Yatra taken out to the fair ground.
The Masal Yatra passed through the main thoroughfares of the town before it reached the venue, Gandhi field. locals and members of various outfits participated in the Masal Yatra.
While district Collector Dasirathi Satpathy the function, Orissa High Court judge Justice Chitta Ranjan Das, Justice Satrughna Pujahari, District Judge Surendra Pani, SP Prafulla Patra, ADJ Pratima Panda, ADM Biswanath Barik, DRDA PD Biswanath Sahu graced as guests.
In his speech, Justice Das said a loka Mahotsav provides a platform for local artists to showcase their talents and also disseminate information on various Government programmes. Subarnapur has got a special place the State’s art and culture map, he said.
