Family members of the late Congress MlA Subal Sahu of Bijepur in Bargarh district are likely to join the BJD along with their supporters.
“The family of Subal Sahu will join the BJD. They will join the party on September 23 with hundreds of their supporters at the Naveen Niwas,” claimed labour Minister Sushant Singh, who represents the Bhatli constituency in Bargarh district, here on Wednesday.
The by-poll for the Bijepur Assembly constituency would be held soon, he pointed out.
However, Subal Sahu’s son said, “They have not taken any decision yet. We will decide our course of action after discussions with the people of the constituency.”
Notably, Sahu was elected to the Assembly from Bijepur thrice on Congress ticket in the 2004, 2009 and 2014 elections. He defeated senior BJD leader Prasanna Acharya in the 2014 Assembly polls.
