Finally, the Syndicate members of Sambalpur University have come hard on former VC Sanjib Mittal. The Syndicate meeting that was held on Tuesday passed a resolution to lodge an FIR against Prof Mittal for gross financial irregularities.

The former VC was in the dock for transferring Rs 29 lakh of the university fund to his son’s and wife's accounts in Haryana. He later refunded the money after a hue and cry.

There are many such instances of financial irregularities from purchase of low quality gold medals for convocation to that of obsolete computers in higher prices, the Syndicate members pointed out. They also gave a long list of corruption and irregularities the VC committed during his tenure.

Notably, recently the Chancellor's office asked the Registrar of SU for an action taken report (ATR) against the former VC pertaining to the financial irregularities he allegedly committed.

In the meanwhile, the lawyers of Sambalpur and former Senate and Syndicate members have warned of moving the Orissa High Court if the local authorities do not take appropriate action against Mittal.
