The Sambalpur University Employees’ Union (SUEU) on Monday held a dharna demanding arrest of Vice Chancellor Sanjib Mittal and his dismissal from the post.
More than 200 employees, both permanent and casual, picketed in front of the administrative office shouting slogans for arrest of the VC and his removal, including two other officials of the university who are responsible for the tragic incident like self immolation and suicide by Dinabandhu Mishra and two others.
They sent a letter to the Chancellor cum Governor of Odisha Prof Ganeshi Lal in this regard. “The dharna will continue till all the demands are fulfilled,” warned union general secretary Satyanarayan Kar. The union further demanded before the Chancellor to take necessary steps to avoid such types of unfortunate incidents in future as three staff members have already committed suicide due to atrocity of the university authorities.
The union further questioned the authority of the present VC to preside over a syndicate meeting on April 23 although he is the prime accused in the suicide case. “We further demand for a judicial enquiry as per Sub-section 20 and Section 6 of the OUSF- 1990,” Kar said.
