Students walk 20 km to apprise DM of problem

Fed up with the authorities’ indifference towards their repeated pleas for posting of teachers, a group of students of the Brahmanagaon residential school in Bangiriposi of Mayurbhanj district jumped the hostel boundary and trudged around 20 km to meet the district Collector to apprise him of their grievance.

Sources said the students have been facing a lot of problems in their studies due to absence of teachers in the school. They have alleged that though teachers have been deputed since one year to teach them, none of them ever turned up at the school.

They also alleged that despite repeated complaints to the District Education Officer (DEO) and Block Development Officer (BDO) regarding the issue, the authorities turned a deaf ear to their pleas.

Sources said 19 students from the residential school would appear in the HSC examinations this year, of which seven students are day-boarders and rest 12 stay in the hostel.

Finally, the students decided to meet the Collector and apprise him of their problems. However, as the Collector was not available at his office, they met the DEO and apprised him about the problem.
