Students travel in vehicles at risk in Koraput

Published on:

Even as the Government has issued directions that students can’t be carried in auto-rickshaws and small vans for safety reasons, college and school students in Koraput rural pockets are seen travelling dangerously everyday due to lack of proper communication and transportation facilities.

It is marked that students travel dangerously in hanging position on the sides and back of small vans for more than 10 km every day.

A bright example has been seen at Badel village under lamtaput block.

The Government is spending a lot of funds for education and setting up offices in different blocks but it has hardly taken steps for safety transportation of students. In many villages in Koraput district, schools are far away and, due to lack of communication facilities, students are forced to cross rivers and travel in vehicles dangerously, alleged parents of Badel village.

“We are interested to go to the school daily. But as there is no movement of buses or other means of transport, we are travelling dangerously in smaller vans and autos. We have also no school in our village,” lamented Dinesh Mahanadia, a Class IX student of the lamtaput High School.
