Students relieved as revised HSC mark sheets published

Ten days after publishing this year’s annual High School Certificate (HSC) examination results, the Board of Secondary Education (BSE), Odisha on Saturday came out with revised mark sheets of the students rectifying the earlier blunders in it.

The revised marks brought back cheers to many students, who were crestfallen after seeing bizarre marks awarded to them earlier in objective section of language subjects, particularly in Sanskrit and Hindi. Many students, who were earlier declared ‘fail’, are now relieved to know that they have cleared the examination with flying colours.

With the revised marks, the pass percentage of this year’s matriculation examination has further improved. The exact pass percentage would be known within a day or two, said a BSE official, predicting that it could be more than 80 per cent.

For the first time, the BSE this year had introduced multiple-answer objective questions along with subjective questions of equal marks. Answers of objective questions were marked on OMR sheets, and due to an alleged computer glitch, inconsistent marks were awarded to the students triggering a State-wide protest.

“The revised mark sheets are available on six websites, which had earlier hoisted the results on April 30,” said BSE President Dakhya Prasad Nanda, adding that steps are now being taken to hoist the scanned OMR sheets of all the students in these websites soon.

Nearly six lakh students had appeared this year’s HSC examinations in six subjects, and each subject had objective and subjective sections of equal marks.

Nanda said any complaint about the marks in subjective section needs to be brought to the notice of the BSE in an appropriate format between May 14 and May 31 for rechecking. “The BSE has now started printing the mark sheets, pass and migration certificates, and they would be distributed to the students in their respective schools within a fortnight,” Nanda informed.
