Hundreds of students of different colleges joined the agitating of Block Grant (BG) teachers on Monday, holding demonstrations before the Plus Two answer sheet evaluation centres. The teachers are on strike seeking fulfilment of their six-point charter of demands.
The students staged dharna and shouted slogans in favour of teachers in front of different evaluation centres in Bhubaneswar, Baleswar, Puri, Sambalpur, Keonjhar and many other places extending solidarity with their teachers.
The students said they want their teachers to evaluate their answer sheets as they have no faith on the retired professors and inexperienced teachers who are presently evaluating the answer sheets.
All Odisha School Teachers’ and Employees’ United Forum leader Golak Nayak said that till now, 2.5 lakh copies should have been evaluated, but only 10,000 copies have been evaluated. This has led to apprehensions that declaration of Plus Two results would be delayed. This would put the future of lakhs of students at stake, but the Government is not paying heed to their demands.
“Instead, the Council of Higher Secondary Education is threatening to take stringent action against us. If action is taken against a single teacher, all of them will further intensify their protests,” said Nayak.
Notably, the BG teachers are on an indefinite strike in front of 56 evaluation centres across the State since April 4.
