Even as the Indoor Department was launched in the Biju Patanik Homoeopathy Medical College here, students insisted on fulfilment of all demands and began staging a dharna in front of the college Principal’s office on Friday.
Notably, local MlA Ramesh Chandra Chyaupatnaik had on Thursday inaugurated the Indoor Department in the presence of city Mayor K Madhavi, BDA Chairman Subash Moharana, ADMO (Medical) Dr Saroj Mishra and college Principal Dr Nivedita Dash. Opening of the Indoor Department was one of the demands made by the students.
“We will continue to sit on dharna till all our demands are fulfilled,” said the agitating students. The students locked the college main gate.
Though the MlA tried to convince them, the students said mere opening of Indoor Department would not benefit the college much unless adequate teaching and
nonteaching staffs are appointed. Their other demands include opening of a library and a laboratory.
It may be noted that the concerned Central authorities have disallowed the college to undertake admissions into the BHMS courses for the current academic year due to lack of adequate infrastructure and staffs.
