The authorities of the Ravenshaw University here have warned that if disturbing trends continue to persist inside the campus then they will have to give a relook to hold the ensuing students’ union elections, which are scheduled early next month.
In view of the recent unrests inside the campus, the varsity authorities have decided to postpone the electioneering, which had gathered momentum this week. Although the elections are scheduled next month and there has been no official notification for the same yet, the authorities here have thrown a caution warning that if favorable atmosphere eludes the campus, then elections for the students’ union could be put off indefinitely.
University Vice-Chancellor Prof BC Tripathy, when contacted on Friday, said the campus is now witnessing student unrest at the drop of a hat and if such situation prevails, it would be difficult to hold the elections. He, however, added that if normalcy returns to the campus then elections would be held as scheduled.
“We want peaceful and normal atmosphere inside the campus before holding the elections,” Prof Tripathy emphasised.
It may be mentioned here that some students of the University are now holding relay dharnas in front of the office of the vice chancellor for last few days demanding admission of two students in the PG course. The authorities however, have expressed their inability to concede to the demands of the students as the admission process for the PG courses have already ended and no more seats are available in the course for which the striking students are seeking admission.
