Student electrocution death: HM suspended

Siudihi Upper Primary School headmistress Sushama Nayak was suspended on Wednesday following the death of a Class II student by electrocution on Tuesday afternoon on the campus.

The incident stoked strong public anger who demanded proper compensation for the deceased child’s kin and due action against the school authority. The body is reportedly lying in the Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH) morgue house as the deceased’s mother has not yet arrived from Delhi.

District administration officials, including lathikata Block Education Officer Santimani Surekha Haro, reached the spot and inspected the accident site where the deceased came in contact with a live electric wire. Significantly, a computer was installed in a room which was also used for accommodation of about 20 students.

“During inspection at the accident site, I witnessed that a wire from the computer point was hanging unsafe.

The incident occurred due to lapses of the school authority,” said BEO Santimani Surekha Haro justifying headmistress Nayak’s suspension.
