A Class-X student drowned in a pond during immersion of an idol of Lord Ganesh in Angul district on Sunday. The deceased was identified as Chandan Parida (15) of Khandarbahal village under the Nisha police limits in the district.
According to reports, some teachers and several students of the Nisha High School,
including Chandan, had gone to a nearby pond in morning for immersion of the idol, which had been worshipped in the school on the occasion of Ganesh Puja.
During the immersion, Chandan slipped into deep water. The teachers and his friends rescued him in an unconscious condition and took him to the District Headquarters Hospital, where he was declared brought dead.
