Student Congress members led by their national secretary and Odisha in-charge Anulekha Bose sold vegetables in front of Agriculture Minister Ranendra Pratap Swain’s residence here on Sunday to protest against the skyrocketing prices of vegetables in the State.
The prices of most of the vegetables that were Rs 20 to Rs 30 per kg a few days back have soared to more than Rs 80. The common people are scared to buy vegetables. The State Government has completely failed to control the prices of vegetables due to lack of foresight. The State doesn’t have adequate cold storage facilities. At least 82 cold storages out of 131 across the State have become defunct, said Pradesh Student Congress president Yasir Nawaj.
“The poor people are mainly suffering due to the inflation in the vegetable market. The State Government has turned a blind eye to their problems. The Congress is always with the poor. We are providing all vegetables with a 50-per cent discount,” said Nawaz.
