The State Government has decided to extend energy efficient public street lighting project to four important towns such as Cuttack, Brahmapur, Rourkela and Sambalpur. The street light project now is being started in capital city Bhubaneswar in a (PPP) mode.
According to Energy Secretary PK Jena, the move is to conserve energy to meet the supply and demand gap by installing energy efficient devices in Government buildings and streets.
The State Energy Department with the help and guidance of the Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Union Ministry of Power, provides the financial as well as the technical assistance for installation of the energy efficient devices.
The International Finance Corporation has evinced interest to provide technical and financial assistance.
A consortium led by Shah Investments, which has been given the charge of the installation of devices in Bhubaneswar, claimed that an estimated 80 per cent of the energy would be saved, he said, adding that the private company would run the project for seven years in Bhubaneswar.
Since the device would save huge funds annually it was decided to extend the devices to other cities. As per the agreement, the company would install the devices in the existing poles along with road side.
