Stranded labourers now allowed to work

Published on:

The State Government on Saturday announced that labourers who are stranded at 2,610 camps in various districts and have completed 14-day quarantine period would now be allowed to move to their workplaces within the State.

In a fresh order, the Revenue and Disaster Management Department said the stranded labourers, both of the State and outside, are allowed to commence work within the State and the industries, agencies and contractors would be allowed to transport them from camps to workplaces in dedicated and designated buses maintaining social distancing.

The department has set some guidelines for implementation of the order.

In the cases where the stranded labourers do not belong to any particular industry/agency/ contractor, the concerned BDOs/ DLOs shall bring it to the notice of the Collector/ PD DRDA, who will make arrangements for such labourers to travel to the workplaces. The district Collectors will make requisition of buses for the purpose through RTOs. The Collectors are authorised to make expenditure on this account from the CMRF.

Since these labourers have completed the quarantine period of 14 days, the recipient local authorities (Sarpanch/ EO ULB/ Collector) shall not insist upon their further quarantine. The Collectors will work in close coordination. While PD DRDAs will act as district nodal officers, DLOs will report to the PD DRDAs for this purpose. At the State level, Labour Commissioner and Transport Commissioner will coordinate the matter.

The data regarding the daily movement will be compiled by the DLOs, in regular coordination with BDOs both at the destination and the recipient district and will be furnished to the Labour Commissioner on a daily basis.
