Stir for chit fund victims’ cause from September 29

The Arthika Sansthamanakadwara Kshatigrastanka Milita Manch (ASKMM) on Tuesday announced that it would launch protest across the State from September 29 as the State Government has turned a blind eye to its demands.

The ASKMM stated that despite repeated assurances by the Naveen Patnaik Government since 2013, the setting up a corpus fund of a Rs 300-crore corpus fund and the constitution of a commission, no headway has been made to provide justice to more than five million people duped by chit fund companies.

ASKMM leaders Rabi Das, Jyaant Das, Madhusudan Biswal and Anuradha Subudhi told reporters that the chit fund victims have not been identified nor has the Government taken any severe step against the companies in the cases filed against them.

Jayant Das said after the Supreme Court’s intervention and prolonged struggle of the victims, the State Government brought a legislation to protect the investors and formed an inquiry commission, but neither the victims got their money nor the Government took any exemplary action against the companies. “Despite submissions of more than 17 lakh affidavits by individual depositors at the primary stage and another 15 lakh by various means, after complete seven years the commission had recommended names of 4.97,000 victims to the Government for returning their money. The Government announced that many victims have got their money, but in reality only a few thousand small depositors got their fund. What about the lakhs of depositors who lost their everything,” asked Das.
