Students led by the Ganjam district committee of the All India Democratic Students’ Organisation (DSO) have been sitting on a dharna in front of the Khallikote Junior College main gate for the last nine days protesting the Government’s proposal of shifting the college to some other place.
This junior college, which is situated adjacent to the Khallikote College (Cluster University) and the Sasibhusan Rath Women’s College, has created an excellent study ambience, and students and faculty members from different places face no communication problem to reach the college.
“There is a deliberate attempt to shift this heritage college to Jagannathpur, which is in the outskirts of the city. If shifted, students and faculty members would face a lot of inconvenience,” said the agitating students.
They have been demanding cancellation of the proposal, filling up of all vacant teaching posts and provision of adequate infrastructure and expansion of the college campus.
