The Special Taskforce (STF) of the Crime Branch would bring arrested suspected al-Qaeda operative Abdul Rehman on a 14-day remand for interrogation.

The Salepur Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Court on Thursday allowed the STF to take Rehman, who is now under the Jharkhand police remand, into custody for grilling.

The STF would interrogate him about his alleged links with influential persons in the State and also his financial transactions.

Sources said the STF has sent the requisite papers along with the Salepur court order to the Tishazari court in Delhi to facilitate bringing of Rehman back to Odisha.

A joint team of the State police and Delhi Police special cell recently nabbed the 37-year-old cleric from Paschim Kachha village under the Jagatpur police station in Cuttack district for his alleged links with terrorist organisation al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS).

Rehman was allegedly tasked with recruitment in the terror organisation. Besides, he was running a madrasa at Tangi in Cuttack for the last two years and had appointed five teachers.

Rehman had reportedly also links with a terrorist involved in the Glasgow International Airport attack in Scotland in 2007. Besides, money was also transferred from london to his bank account.
