In a significant achievement, the Crime Branch’s Special Task Force (STF) on Saturday arrested five persons on the charge of smuggling contraband in the Barunei area in Khordha district .
Over one kg of brown sugar was also seized from possession of peddlers. Main accused Bijay Mohanty was arrested from Khordha while four others, who supply contraband to Mohanty, were apprehended while they were on their way to Baleswar. They were identified as SK Jumman Badruddin of Jhadeswarpur in Baleswar district and Soumyajit Parija, Sagar Behera and Sapan Bhattacharya of Jagatsinghpur. Acting on an input, an STF team conducted raids in the Barueni area and apprehended Mohanty.
A packing machine and other incriminating materials were seized from his possession during search. The STF team also seized car by which fours accused were travelling. Besides, a cash of Rs 5,30,000 was recovered from their possession.
