In a major achievement for police in its drive against organised crime, the Crime Branch’s Special Task Force (STF) succeeded in nabbing notorious Kendrapada gangster Tito alias Syed Usman Ali after an encounter near Chandikhol in Jajpur district on Saturday.
The STF swung into action in the morning after it got a tipoff on the whereabouts of Tito, who was on the run since long. A team of Special Task Force (STF) led by DIG Himanshu lal conducted a raid on the hideout of Tito at Chandikhol.
As per the STF officials’ accounts, Tito opened fire spotting them. In the retaliatory firing by the cops he sustained bullet injury on his left leg and was subsequently nabbed.
Tito was rushed to the Badachana Community Health Centre (CHC), where his condition was stated to be out of danger.
The dreaded criminal was involved in a number of cases including tender fixing, extortion, firing and murder under different police stations across the State, said a senior police official. He was also involved in the firing incident of March 29 in Jagatpur of Cuttack district in which suspected terror operative Abdul Rehman’s brother Tahir was injured.
