The Opposition, Congress on Friday demanded Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s resignation over the alleged misconduct of Agriculture Minister Pradeep Maharathy in the Assembly on Thursday.

“The Naveen Government made history in the country by engaging a Cabinet Minister to outrage modesty of a woman member in the House,” leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra told mediapersons in reference to Agriculture Minister Pradeep Maharathy’s alleged misconduct in the House.

He said, the Chief Minister should resign soon taking moral responsibility of his Minister’s misconduct. Besides, he demanded that the Speaker ensure security for all the members of the House. Mishra also sent a letter to Speaker Niranjan Pujari in this regard.

“In spite of the ghastly uncivilised incident that took place inside the House, there has been no action or assurance till now. Unless security is provided to the members, it is not possible to conduct the business of the House,” Mishra stated in the letter. He said MlAs now feel unsafe to frankly make any submission or express their views in the Assembly.
