State's coastal region to receive rain after Oct 30

The Meteorological Centre here on Sunday predicted rainfall in some parts of coastal Odisha after October 30 under the influence of a low pressure formed off the Sri lanka coast.

According to a Press release issued by the Met office, a low pressure area has formed over southwest Bay of Bengal off Sri lanka coast on Sunday morning under the influence of an upper air cyclonic circulation over east Sri lanka coast and its adjoining areas which extends up to 3.6 km above mean sea level.

Under its influence, rain and thundershower would occur at one or two places over coastal Odisha. However, local Regional Meteorological Centre Director Dr Sarat Sahu denied no immediate possibility of rainfall and said, “Some parts of coastal Odisha would experience rainfall only after October 30,” he added. He further said there would be sporadic rainfall in the State due to the rise in the day temperature and more concentration of water vapours in the atmosphere.

“The low pressure would gradually move towards Tamil Nadu from where it would move up along the coast towards north-north-east and hit the south Odisha coast around October 31 or November 1. Under its influence, there would be rainfall in south coastal districts which will gradually spread to Baleswar. The rainfall would continue from October 30 up to November 1,” he informed.
