Even as Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his recent Khordha public meeting alleged the State Government’s poor performance in irrigation facilities for farmers, the Central Board of Irrigation & Power (CBIP) has awarded the Water Resources Department of the State Government with the CBIP Award-2019 for ‘Effective Participatory Irrigation Management’.
The award has recognised the State Government’s irrigation management achieved by minimising the gap between potential created and potential utilised by managing “Rational Irrigation through Pani Panchayat” to the tail-end farmers through training and multidisciplinary support to all stakeholders for improving capacity building through ADB, World Bank, JICA, RKVY and other Centre and State-assisted projects.
“Odisha’s strive to boost agriculture through effective participatory irrigation management has now received national recognition CBIP Award 2019. Increased utilisation of irrigation potential is a major fillip to farming and socioeconomic growth of farmers,” the Chief Minister’s Office Tweeted on Sunday.
