The State’s per-day average power requirement and any day’s highest power need would be 3,450 MW and 4050 MW, respectively, in April 2016 against the State’s highest power generation capacity of 3,670 MW.

Energy Minister Pranab Prakash Das informed this in the State Assembly on Tuesday in response to a question by BJP MlA Dilip Ray. Das further informed that the average power need and any day highest power requirement in May would increase to 3,500 MW and 4,100 MW, respectively.

The Minister said an average of 2,700 MW power is being generated in the State by different power plants against their total capacity of 3,670 MW. He attributed the low power generation to low water levels in various reservoirs.

“The water level in reservoirs across the State has remained low in comparison to the corresponding

period of the last year,” the Minster said.
