In yet another step towards promotion of non-conventional energy, the State Government has decided to set up grid based solar roof top projects on PPP mode. This was decided in a high-level meeting held under chairmanship of Chief Secretary Jugal Kishore Mohapatra recently.

The State Government has set a target of producing 5 to 10 MW of solar power in the State. As a part of this exercise, a pilot and replicable greed connected roof top solar project would be started in the State.

At the initial level, the project will be piloted on roof top of the non-residential Government buildings in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar. Tenders from open market on competitive bidding would be invited for the project, while GEDCOl would be the nodal agency for implementation of the project.

The Chief Secretary directed that nodal officers should be identified for the purpose in GEDCOl as well as in the offices on top of which the system will be installed.

The Energy department was asked to complete the initial process and identify the buildings, where the system will be installed by November 15. Energy Secretary PK Jena said that Odisha has wider potentiality for production of grid connected solar energy.

“Various incentives are also available through State and Central Government schemes to start such projects on a large scale basis,” he informed adding that 1 KW power can be generated over a roof top of 15 sq mt which is available in small residential houses. Jena disclosed that the pilot project after successful trial would be extended to other buildings and private houses also.

Development Commissioner Injeti Srinivas, Additional Chief Secretary Revenue and Disaster Management Taradatt,  Additional Chief Secretary Finance UN Behera, Principal Secretary Water Resources Suresh Chandra Mohapatra, Secretary Works NK Pradhan, MD GRIDCO Hemant Kumar Sharma along with other senior officers participated in the deliberations.
