The State Government would formulate a new telemedicine policy soon. Steps have been taken to introduce modern technology, advanced equipments and service by specialist doctors.

This was stated at a review meeting by Health and Family Welfare Secretary PK Meherda on Saturday.

Presently, a nodal centre of telemedicine is functioning at the SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack. After implementation of the new policy, it would be expanded to other hospitals.

Discussions were held on the present status of telemedicine network, e-ICU and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL)s communication networks.

After implementation of telemedicine network in the State, in 2017 and 2018, patients have saved Rs 4 crore.

A decision was also taken to link the telemedicine network with all Government hospitals, District Headquarters Hospitals and the wellness centres. Due to which the people coming to the DHHs would directly get services of specialists.
