The State Government would demand Rs 525 crore from the Centre as compensation towards its loss under the Goods & Services Tax (GST) regime in the past two months.
Finance Minister Sashi Bhusan Behera said the State Government had estimated Rs 2,393-crore tax collection since the GST was implemented.
“But our collection is to the tune of Rs 1,868 crore only. Now, the Centre must compensate the loss to the tune of 14 per cent. We are to get Rs 525 crore,” the Finance Minister said.
Behera said that introduction of the GST with effect from July 1, 2017 has resulted in a paradigm shift in the tax administration. As per the latest decision of the GST Council, 90 per cent of the taxpayers up to annual turnover of Rs 1.50 crore and 50 per cent of above Rs 1.50 crore turnovers would be dealt with by the State tax officers.
In this way, the State would administer taxpayers almost eight times that of the Centre and the State tax administration would look into registration, return scrutiny, audit, enforcement activities, assessment and appeal under the OGST, CGST and IGST Acts.
Six goods, i.e., crude, petrol, diesel, aviation turbine fuel (ATF), natural gas and alcohol for human consumption are outside the GST ambit.
